So here we are in March and we know now the secret is LITTLE HABITS.

We've got do those tiny baby habits that keep us building. It's going to take almost 66 days for a new idea to become a habit. So we have to stop treating our New Year's resolutions like a crash diet. You're a trainer, you know crash diets don't work! You know you're going to have to pay the price later. So why? Why would we do that with our business, our fitness, with the fitness of our clients?

So what we'd like to do instead is think…

What's the goal we actually want?

What's the feeling we're going for?

Is there a tangible thing?

... And work backwards from there.

Because if we continue to treat our New Year's resolutions like crash diets, yeah, that's about as much fun as going to the dentist, all the root canals in one day.

And that 66 days of making a new behavior a habit that I talked about, that's a heck of a lot longer than the two-week-streak that we normally have in January. (And then Netflix starts calling and you're binge watching a new show, so come on!)

Let's fix this. We want small, sustainable changes.

  • Instead of promising that we're all going to turn into certified public accountants and keep the best books ever, how about just finding a new tool that will help you scan your receipts and organize them?

  • Maybe you’ll find a better tracking app as a traveling instructor. Our mileage matters! We need to keep track of what we're doing.

  •  And in your exercise / practice for yourself - an hour might seem like a lot. Can you carve out 15 minutes for yourself everyday? Can you look at how you are scheduling clients so that you have time to go for a walk in a great neighborhood? Maybe there's a gym nearby that you like to use. Maybe if you have a brick and mortar gym, you get in before all of the clients start the day and you give yourself just a few minutes. That's all about you.

Did you know there was a study in the Journal of American Medicine that found people who focus on long-term behavior changes … They're the ones who have the most success!

And your business is not a resolution.

Your business is a long-term, hopefully lifelong adventure. You're not jumping from one cool job to the next. You're growing. You're growing in the community. You're making connections. You want to feel great so that you can feel great when you're helping others.

One of the most important things about any plan is to remember perfection is not possible.

You want connection over perfection - and that's not just in your body.

That's a mantra I say a lot to my clients to remind them we're not looking for the perfect thing in your exercise. This is also something to remember in your business.

You are not always going to find the perfect moment, the perfect drive time, the perfect piece of equipment. Everything requires some adjustment and letting go of that perfection in how you run your business, letting go of perfection, of how your client is performing an exercise… Not only is it gonna make you happier, it's gonna make your clients a lot happier.

Celebrate what you're doing because I know you're doing a lot! Celebrate what your client is doing so that they can see that when it isn't all just picture perfect, it's still fantastic.

One of the great things you can do now to ensure your success is to Find Your Tribe, especially as a traveling instructor. A lot of times we're by ourselves. It's just us on our way to a client, then with our client, and then we're back by ourselves again as we travel to the next spot. Hey, there's a community out there of other traveling mobile instructors! And behavioral medicine has shown that things you do in a community, with a partner, with a coach -  those are the things that you'll do with love. If you can help take some of that lonely misery off of those tasks and put it together with others who are doing what you're doing, or a coach who's already been where you're at, it makes the journey so much better.

And now you'll want to grow in your business.

You'll want to reach out and talk to people about what it is you do. You'll want to be seen and be known and you'll be excited. If you're thinking about what you could do for your business, now that we're in March and you've gone through those New Year's resolutions and you'd like to try something different, something that will actually work…

Schedule a FREE Business Audit with me.

We'll carve out some time. We'll take a look at what you're doing and give you some points, some tips, you can use to help your traveling business be so much more rewarding for you, and more rewarding for your clients.

And if you're already in a studio, or you're a gym owner, and you haven't thought about having a traveling, mobile portion to your brick & mortar business, definitely book a time to get a FREE Business Audit with me!

… You'd be amazed how many people in your neighborhood will never ever come to your brick and mortar location, but they'd really love to have you come to them.

Alrighty, here we go!

It's March, we are marching forward and we don't need New Year's resolutions because we're gonna build the habits that help grow our business, help grow our fitness and our happiness…  And the habits that help our clients be their absolute best!

Tami
